What to send

The faster we can verify a problem, the faster it is fixed. Please include:

  • The exact link to the story on this site, and the sentence you believe is wrong.
  • What it should say instead.
  • A link to something we can check — typically the original outlet's article, a filing, a document or a statement.
  • Whether you are connected to the story (for example, you are named in it). We will still check the facts.

You do not need an account to request a correction. If you leave an email address we will reply to it; if you do not, the correction is still made but we cannot tell you when.

What happens next

  1. The request lands in the desk queue and is read by a person. It is not auto-published or auto-dismissed.
  2. We compare our story against the credited source and check whether the error is ours, theirs, or a difference in interpretation.
  3. If the error is ours, we correct the story, mark it as updated with the time, and record the change below. If the source itself has corrected its reporting, we follow their correction and note that.
  4. If we believe our story is accurate, we explain why in the reply, quoting the source. We do not quietly ignore a correction request.

We aim to acknowledge within one working day and to resolve straightforward factual errors within two. Requests that need document verification can take longer; the request stays open until it is resolved either way.

What counts as a correction

A correction changes a fact: a name, a number, a date, a place, a title, a quotation, or a conclusion the story drew that the source does not support. Clarifications add context without changing the fact. Both are recorded. A difference of opinion about an interpretation is not a correction — but tell us anyway, and we will consider whether the story should present the alternative.

Corrections log

Substantive corrections are listed here with the date and what changed. When there are no entries, none have been made yet.

No substantive corrections have been recorded.

This log updates from the newsroom when a correction is made. If you are reading this after requesting one and expected to see it here, contact the desk and quote your story link.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the editor through the contact page. If you believe a story breaches a legal right, say so explicitly and include the basis — those requests are handled before editorial ones.
